Fancy nature, peace, and quiet? This trail guarantees relaxation in the forest of Chandolin. It leads past a small hamlet and the Alpine meadows at Chandolin. Near the Illhornhütte (hut), the views of the valley floor and its 4,000-metre peaks are spectacular.
Description
Chandolin is situated on the sunny, scenic eastern slope of the anterior Val d’Anniviers at nearly 2,000 metres above sea level. It is, therefore, one of Europe's highest permanently inhabited villages. This circular trail allows you to immerse yourself in the pristine forests above the community.
The route begins with an ascent on the ski run but then branches off quickly and enters the forest. The trail ascends gently through the peaceful countryside to the hamlet of Pramarin. Zigzag your way past its huts and continue uphill to the path that forks to the right to the Illhorn ski run. This vantage point offers breathtaking views of the mountains at the end of the valley. Further down, the Illhornhütte is also clearly visible. Here, you can take a break on the panoramic terrace.
When you reach the road again, follow it to Alpage de Chandolin. The route then continues on a forest road until the ski run forks, and the trail leads back to Chandolin. The closely built old village has preserved its original character. Did you know the village centre, with its typical wooden houses, served as a design model for the Swiss themed area at Europapark?
