Prui-Ftan-Schlittelweg
Overview
Intro
The Engadine Classic: the toboggan run from Prui to Ftan passes mainly through the forest and offers delightful views of the Lower Engadine Dolomites, villages and the Tarasp castle.
Description
The toboggan run begins at over 2000 m a.s.l., to the west of the Prümaran Prui mountain restaurant. Almost a must: take a few moments before setting off to enjoy the view of the Lower Engadine. At the outset the piste is shared by tobogganers, winter hikers and air boarders, before reaching the actual start of the toboggan run.
Starting out towards the south-east the first part of the toboggan run is fairly straight, but once it reaches the God S-chür forest there are lots of small bends that require a certain amount of technical skill. A bit more than a kilometre further on there is a sharp right-hand bend. On turning the corner riders are rewarded with a delightful view of Ftan Pitschen, a typical Engadine village. The last stretch down to the bottom station of the Ftan-Prui chairlift runs through open territory and is ideal for a fast descent. Overall around 2 km of this 3 km trail go through the forest.
It’s worth having a look around Ftan, the village at the end of the run. Across the valley from this sun-kissed plateau Tarasp Castle stands in the foreground, embedded in the picturesque landscape of the majestic Lower Engadine Dolomites that rise in the background. Also fascinating is Ftan’s 400-year-old Alpine Mill, which gives an insight into the rich corn economy of bygone days.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
