Intro
The high Biber valley, the plain between Rothenthurm and Biberbrugg, ranks as an especially beautiful moorland area of national importance. The well-signed moorland path passes through this unique protected moorland (a model for moor conservation in Switzerland).
Description
Many moors were created in the cool and humid climate of the trough-shaped high Biber valley, including Switzerland's largest extant stretch of upland moor and heathland (over 100 hectares). It is surrounded by an extremely rich mosaic of different habitats: remains of mountain pine upland moors, spruce forest groves, peat bogs, fens and the winding river Biber with its alluvial pastureland. Local service providers join Pro Natura in advocating the preservation of this upland moor.
The moorland path is also highly recommended: here, visitors can hike on paths with gravel and wooden-slat surfaces or well-beaten tracks. The route crosses forests with six-foot ferns and open areas with rare plants such as orchids, cotton grasses and willow gentian.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
