Sassweg
Overview
Intro
Located above the winter sports resort of Malbun, the Sassweg is the most popular winter hiking trail in the Principality of Liechtenstein. It leads gently uphill and offers beautiful views of Malbun and the surrounding area.
Description
The winter sports resort of Malbun is situated in a side valley of the Saminatal Valley and is a popular location for hiking in the winter months. Hikers in search of an easy trail with excellent views will enjoy the Sassweg, a well-maintained circular walking route winding its way through high walls of snow, mountain pines and a rolling landscape with sunny hollows.
The hike starts next to the Friedenskapelle chapel in Malbun, the highest place of worship in the Principality of Liechtenstein, situated at the foot of the craggy Ochsenkopf Massif. The trail leads gently uphill through a light forest and offers excellent views of the valley below. After a good hour, you reach the last ascending section which ends directly at the highest point of the snowshoe hike. From Sassförkle (1,786 m.a.s.l.) you can enjoy a beautiful view of the Augstenberg and the pristine snow-covered landscape around Malbun.
before returning via Alpe Sass to the Schneefluchtlift and then back down into the centre of Malbun.
