Schneeschuhtrail Hinter Ey–Luthern Bad
Overview
Intro
Starting in the Luthern Bad place of pilgrimage, the trail follows the Luthern stream through the delightful hills of the Napf region. Alp Badegg offers pleasant views of the Luther valley. A worthwhile place to pause is the Badbrünnli 'place of power' with its mystical arm and foot baths.
Description
The Luthern Bad place of pilgrimage is situated in the heart of Switzerland at the foot of the Napf. The trail starts at Dreilindenplatz, very close to the church where regular pilgrimage services and blessings for the sick and disabled are held. It's also the terminus of the Zell-Luthern Bad PostBus line. Following the Luthern and heading towards the Napf, the route leads over a new timber bridge and into the forest. A continuous gentle ascent takes you past a small bridge to Hinter Ey, where you catch sight of the imposing Napffluh in the midst of the Napf, a landscape steeped in legend.
The trail then turns and calls for some effort on your part: after a short but steep zigzag rise you reach a clearing. Here, at the highest point of the outing, the trail branches off again: it first passes through the forest, then down across a field to the Alprestaurant Badegg, a good place for a hot drink and something fortifying to eat while enjoying the views across the Swiss Central Plateau.
The trail continues over fields. On reaching a bend, you branch off straight on downhill past a barn to the Fuhrweg path, which, before reaching Luthern Bad, takes you to a small hill surmounted by the Jakob Minder cross. Pause awhile on the bench by the sycamore tree and contemplate the tranquillity of this place and the view of Luthern Bad. The Jakob Minder path leads to Badbrünnli with its spring imbued with healing powers, chapel of pilgrimage, and arm and foot baths located underground. From there it's not far back to Dreilindenplatz in Luthern Bad.
