Schneeschuhtrail Oberer Segnesboden
Overview
Intro
Immerse yourself in the UNESCO World Heritage TectonicArena Sardona: The Alpine snowshoe tour goes round the upper Segnesboden, framed by the Grisons mountains. At the Tschenghel dil Gori rest area, views open up towards Lumnezia, Flims, the Stätzerhorn and Rothorn.
Description
The upper Segnesboden, at the foot of the Tschingelhorn massif, is located at an altitude of more than 2,000 metres. The wide, surprisingly flat plane formed by glaciers unfurls before you. The area that the trail leads through is part of the UNESCO World Heritage TectonicArena Sardona. It offers an impressive panoramic vista and fascinating insights into geological history: The collision of Europe and Africa resulted in 300-million-year-old layers of rock being thrust over much more recent layers. The resulting thrust surface can be seen more clearly here than anywhere else.
The trail begins at the mountain station in Cassons at an altitude of 2,500 metres, which you reach via the modern ten-person gondola lift from Flims. Towards the north, the trail plunges into the arena of rock and snow formed by Segnes, Sardona and Piz Dolf. Once you reach an altitude of 2,376 metres, you start heading back. Your gaze will be drawn to the south-west, where you can see Piz Grisch and Ofen, with its legendary off-piste slopes in the UNESCO area. The La Siala mountain station is visible in the distance.
The rest area above Tschenghel dil Gori is another highlight of the trail. From here, the view opens up towards Lumnezia, Flims, Lake Cauma and as far as the Stätzerhorn and Rothorn. The trail continues via Crap la Tgina, ending with a slight climb back at the Cassons mountain station.
