Breathtaking views and breathtaking climbs: Hikers on showshoes with a very good level of fitness can enjoy this varied route between Kronberg and Säntis.
Description
This challenging snowshoe tour starts on Schwägalp, at the foot of the imposing wall of the Säntis mountain. Passing the alpine rights of the Schwägalp alpine community, which are hidden by the snow in winter, with the steeply rising tip of the «Chamm» always on your right, you will reach the beautiful location of the Chammhalden hut. It can already be seen from a distance – and is always open for business when the Swiss flag is flying.
After this gentle initiation, comes the climb: through the Bruggenwald covered in deep snow, up and down to Schutzenälpli, where the idyllic Weissbachtal spreads out in front of you. The alpine buildings of Langälpli are followed by a crisp climb and then the «dessert»: a wide, flat ridge of hills, which deserve to be enjoyed. Lastly comes the steep but short final ascent, which is rewarded with a wonderful panorama. The view stretches from the Churfirsten via the Alpine foothills and Lake Constance to the impressive north chain of the Alpstein with Säntis.
The cable car brings visitors comfortably back down into the valley. Anyone who prefers something a bit faster can toboggan down from Kronberg to Jakobsbad. The tour can also be tackled in the opposite direction, which is therefore less strenuous.
