Intro
This hike presents the more mountainous side of the canton of Thurgau. After a steep climb, the trail crosses the narrow Tannegg arête to arrive at the Tannegg ruin, a recommended viewpoint. The trail makes up part of the 200km long Thurgau circular hiking trail.
Description
The route starts at Romanshorn railway station and promises an exciting day out in the Lake Constance region. For a short distance, the trail leads through the small town of Romanshorn, but soon turns towards Bachweg where nature unfolds in all its glory. This section winds through the idyllic landscape that’s perfect for a leisurely stroll. After a short walk, there follows a patch of woodland. The trail then leads past huge apple tree plantations and orchards until you reach the charming Leimenhof.
Originally built as a farmhouse, it has grown to become a cultural centre over the years. Nowadays, various events, courses and activities take place there.
After your detour through the gorgeous Lake Constance landscape, you will arrive in charming Uttwil. This municipality is idyllically situated beside the water. From here, the trail leads along the shore back to Romanshorn. The scenery along the way treats you to magnificent landscapes, majestic mountains and lush lakeside vegetation with lots of reeds. With the gentle lapping of the waves, this area has a distinctly peaceful atmosphere, which you can savour by taking a break at one of the many little benches or picnic spots along the way.
The trail has cultural appeal too: the historic buildings and charming harbours provide insights into the local history and culture, making this hike an all-round edifying experience.
