Torrenttrail Bike
Overview
Intro
The Torrent Trail from the Rinderhütte in Leukerbad to Jeizinen is one of the ten best single trails in Switzerland. It is one of the routes that any mountain biker enjoys, from expert enduro rider to cautious occasional biker.
Description
It makes sense to take the gondola from Leukerbad up to the Rinderhütte mountain inn, but you could do it with your bike, of course. To do so, you take the road up to Torrentalp and continue to the Rinderhütte. The fun begins just below the mountain station. The single trail always hugs the south walls of Torrenthorn. It is never steep and always effortless to ride. It is like a textbook example of a smoothly flowing single trail. As much fun as it is, an occasional stop is necessary to be able to savour the views. Most of the 4000-meter peaks of the Valais, from Mont Blanc to Weissmies, are lined up on the opposite side of the valley.
The Torrent Trail doesn’t seem to end, it runs only a short distance on a small road near Alp Oberu, and then the next adventure begins heading for Bachalp. This is a good place for a brief stop near the uppermost alpine huts where fresh cheese and homemade cakes are typically served.
No pain, no gain: a bit of uphill is still needed. On a gravel road you climb up to Niwenalp and take the next single trail to Feselalp. This is where the fun with single trails ends. On an asphalt road you descend to Jeizinen and keep going, always on asphalt, via Engersch, Feschel and Albinen back to Leukerbad. This alternative has 20 kilometres of asphalt roads to get to Leukerbad.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
