Weissenstein Süd-Schlittelweg
Overview
Intro
The mountain road on Mount Weissenstein, which is closed to vehicles in winter, is transformed into a toboggan run offering plenty of speed and turns.
Description
From Oberdorf, which can be reached from Solothurn in just a few minutes, a modern cableway leads up onto the local mountain of the ambassadorial city. The view from Mount Weissenstein is impressive. On clear days, one can see from Mount Säntis out across the Swiss Plateau to Mont Blanc.
One can descend back into the fog below either via the panoramic gondola lifts – or on a toboggan. The twisting and turning Weissenstein South toboggan run leads through the Jura nature reserve. The ride on the closed-off mountain road is challenging and steep in parts.
From Mount Weissenstein, one first comes to Nesselboden, where a short section of the run (around 300 metres) must be completed on foot. But the descent down to the valley station of the Weissenstein lift and the BLS Station Oberdorf – the final destination of the run – is all the speedier.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
