The Refuge de Solalex mountain hut is located on the idyllic Solalex plateau, surrounded by the imposing mountain backdrop of the Miroir de l’Argentine and the Les Diablerets massif. The restaurant mainly serves local specialities. The star item on the menu is the raclette, grilled over a wood fire.
“The hut is situated on a picturesque alpine slope, just a few kilometres from Gryon and Villars. The Refuge cannot be reached by car during the winter season, as the road from Cergnement is closed to traffic. This guarantees plenty of peace and quiet on snowshoe tours. It takes around an hour to get from Cergnement to the Refuge de Solalex and from there an exploration of the plateau is highly recommended. In addition to enjoying the snowy and varied natural landscape, you can also see the imposing Miroir de l’Argentine here: the rock face is as smooth as a mirror and shimmers like silver, hence the name Miroir de l’Argentine or “Mirror of Silver”. The geological formation took place in three stages: rock formation on the sea bed, folding during the formation of the Alps and finally erosion. Depending on how the light falls, the Miroir de l’Argentine stands out as a shimmering presence. This hike through pleasant forests and past a gently babbling stream puts the mind to rest in no time at all.
After a long, relaxing snowshoe tour out in the fresh air, the Refuge de Solalex greets hikers with a truly cosy atmosphere thanks to its welcoming open fire and alpine chalet charm. The highlight is the raclette with Mont-d’Or AOP cheese, which is grilled over a wood fire and accompanied by the delicious house white wine.”
