The many different themed trails invite you to discover the region in a special way: On the Egerkinger Poesieweg and Holderbanker Poesieweg poetry trails, literary texts and quotes accompany hikers as they journey through nature. Starting from the ruins of Neu-Falkenstein, the Holzweg Thal trail tells exciting stories about wood through its artistic installations. The Jura Crest Trail opens up expansive views over the Jura landscape, while the Solothurn woodland hikes take you through quiet forests and over sunny heights. Each path tells its own story. 

A journey through time on the Three Castles Hike

The Three Castles Hike in Thal Nature Park combines the opportunity to experience nature with medieval history. On this hike over around 15 kilometres, visitors discover the ruins of three impressive castles: Alt-Falkenstein, Alt-Bechburg and Neu-Falkenstein. 

Alt-Falkenstein Castle keeps watch over Balsthal

Alt-Falkenstein towers over the “Klus” and today is home to a museum with exciting exhibitions on regional history. The ruins of Alt-Bechburg near Holderbank, built around the year 1050, offer an expansive view over the Augstbach Valley. Neu-Falkenstein near Balsthal, which is thought to have been built in the 12th century, invites you to stay a while with its imposing tower and barbecue areas. All the castles are freely accessible at all times.
