The Verzasca Dam at a glance
The 220-metre-high and 380-metre-long arch dam stands at the entrance to the Verzasca Valley. Built between 1960 and 1965, it dams up the emerald green Lago di Vogorno. The Wall became world-famous in 1995 as a film set for the James Bond film "GoldenEye". A small museum inside provides information about the history and function of the building.
What to experience
Cross the dam wall and visit the museum (30-60 minutes)
Walk over the 380-meter-long wall crown and look 220 meters into the depths. Inside the dam wall, you will learn about the construction history in the small museum and learn how the hydroelectric power plant works. Display boards and original equipment illustrate the technology.
- Good to know: The dam is accessible all year round.
Hike from the dam to Vogorno (2 hours)
Follow the high-altitude trail via Berzona and Sant Antonio to the village of Vogorno. The route leads through forests, past traditional stone houses and offers views of the turquoise Lake Vogorno. In Vogorno, the church of San Bartolomeo awaits you with frescoes from the 13th century.
- Good to know: Parts of the path are exposed and therefore secured with ropes.
- Tip: At the church of San Bartolomeo, take the bus back to the dam.
