Switzerland Tourism (ST): Vincenzo, please introduce yourself in a few words and explain your connection to Switzerland.
Vincenzo Dascanio (VD): I’m Vincenzo Dascanio, I am a flower and event designer. A dreamer is how I like to define myself. I have been working in the event industry for almost 25 years and my passion for design and events is constantly growing. Switzerland has been for me a “love at first sight”. The beauty of its landscape, the elegance of people that live there or choose it for their holidays. Everything is so efficient. I am a creative person, but I really love things to be in order, scheduled and well organized. For this reason, Switzerland represents for me a great opportunity.
ST: Where do you get your inspiration?
VD: I am a curious person, I read a lot and I am constantly updated on the market trends. Travelling and meeting new people are definitely big sources of inspiration for me. My mind keeps exploring and travelling without control! It just happens. Memories, places I have been to, people I have met.. .all these pieces suddenly come together and the idea comes up.
ST: Why did you open a shop in Switzerland?
VD: It represents for me the place to be: beautiful setting, nice and elegant people. And again everything is so efficient and well organized that doing business here is quite easy. Moreover I receive a lot of requests of people doing events there or asking to have their houses decorated and transformed. I could not lose these opportunities.
ST: What are the biggest challenges in your job?
VD: For sure, meeting our clients’ expectations as well as translating and communicating what I have in my mind. They come to me, sometimes they have a clear idea, sometimes no idea at all. For sure, I take their brief and then the idea becomes reality, and their dream comes true. Our creativity is not easy to explain but we really create and sell dreams to people. I think that’s the reason why people choose us.
ST: What was the craziest request you ever had as a floral designer?
VD: To be honest we receive a lot of “crazy” requests, and we usually end up doing all of them! We have never said no, we cannot do that. We have always found a way to make it happen. That’s why even the craziest requests are not that crazy for us. They represent a new challenge for our team and we really like the energy of exploring new possibilities and always finding a solution, something new or never done before.
ST: What is your creative process, how do you involve couples in the process?
VD: We receive many requests through our email or IG page. We usually set a call in order to better discuss the idea and if it's doable we prefer to meet them in person. An informal meeting usually is the best way to start knowing and trusting each other. It’s a long process that leads to an event where trust is really one of the most important pillars. We take their brief, we share ideas and then we fix a site inspection to see the venues going deeper into the creative process. We then send our project and discuss it with the couples to see their reactions and adjust the project where needed. As soon as the project is finalized we then start our production and we keep building their dream until the end.
ST: Describe your relationship with Event Producers and Wedding Planners.
VD: The Event industry is made up of many talented people and I really love to work with people that I already know as well as with new professionals… I love people with passion, enthusiasm and most of all with good energy and the ability to share positive vibes.
ST: 2020 has been a very challenging year, what keeps you motivated.
VD: It’s been a tough year, it’s true, but I never stop. I have diversified my business: opened a few temporary shops. I’m working on interior design projects and there are many things to come. I hate complaining and not doing things is not a solution for me. I reinvent myself in every difficult moment and that’s the key, which has allowed me to keep working, keeping my team at work and still investing in new projects.
