Intro

Swiss citizens are champions when it boils down to recycling – and 94% of old glass and 81% of PET containers make their way to special collection points instead of household bins.

Around 90% of used glass in Switzerland is recycled. A world record, with hardly any glass that doesn’t get a second life! Furthermore, glass production from old melted glass consumes a quarter less energy as compared to “new” production methods with quartz sand. Aluminum cans are not far behind the record at collection points either (over 90%); followed by tin, sheet steel and old paper (over 85%) and PET (over 80%). On average, each Swiss inhabitant annually collects 345 kilograms of recyclable materials. (Figures from 2011).
