Amsteg is a great place to stay to get another, quieter perspective on the Gotthard region. This unique hotel dating from 1788 has just been sensitively and stylishly restored to its former splendour, making it and its venerable speciality restaurant well worth a visit. Elegant rooms, a restaurant with fine cuisine and dedicated conference facilities make this an ideal base for guests seeking peace and relaxation while soaking up the atmosphere of days gone by.
In the center of Switzerland, situated on the north-south axis, just before the ascent to the Gotthard Amsteg located on the A2. Ideally located hotel to explore the Swiss Furka, Gotthard, Klausen, Lukmanier, Nufenenpass, Oberalp and Susten. By car you can reach us via the A2 motorway exit No. 38 Amsteg. After 300 meters you will find our hotel in the village Amsteg. From the main train station Erstfeld you are only 12 minutes away by bus right outside our hotel door (stop Amsteg post).

Swiss Historic Hotels and Lodgings

La romántica posada del año 1788 fue una de las primeras oficinas de correos de Suiza y alojó a famosos huéspedes como Goethe y Christian Andersen. Numerosas antigüedades rememoran los tiempos de las diligencias en el paso de San Gotardo. El jardín a modo de parque, las habitaciones con históricos detalles, sus muebles auténticos y el acogedor comedor ofrecen un genuino ambiente nostálgico.

2009 Ausgezeichnet «für die fachgerechte Restaurierung des vollständig erhaltenen Bestandes qualitätsvoller Hotelmöbel aus allen Epochen des Betriebes.» Bereits 1357 wird in einer Urkunde «das Haus Werners, Wirt von Amsteg, am Beginn der Steigung zum Gotthardpass» erwähnt. Man nimmt an, dass damit das Hotel Sternen gemeint ist, in dem 1775 auch Goethe einkehrte. Das Wirtshaus wurde 1788 durch einen Brand zerstört und umgehend wieder aufgebaut. 1830 entstand der rückseitige Anbau. Mit der Einrichtung eines der ersten Postbüros der Schweiz an der Gotthardstrasse wurde der «Sternen» 1850 zum Hotel Stern & Post und zu einer gerne genutzten Herberge für die Reisenden. 1946/47 wurden Saal und Restaurant im Erdgeschoss sowie Ein- und Aufgang neu gestaltet, 1956/57 erhielt das Hotel einen Saal gegen den Garten. Bei der letzten Renovation 2007/08 wurden die einzelnen Räume und das Mobiliar grundsätzlich in ihrem jüngsten Stil restauriert, womit die bewegte Geschichte des Hauses erlebbar wird.
