Hinterburgseeli Trail
Sinopsis
Introducción
From Axalp high above Lake Brienz along a trail flanked by snow-covered wooden sculptures and storm-ravaged forests to the tiny Hinterburgseeli lake, nestled into a mystical hollow and surrounded by towering rock ledges.
Descripción
The snowshoe trail begins at the Sportbahnen bus stop on Axalp, an alp used by centuries of Brienz farmers as a summer cattle grazing ground. Nowadays, Axalp is home to a compact, family-friendly winter sports area.
To the rear of the Axalp Stübli Restaurant, the snowshoe trail follows the in summer popular woodcarving trail, which now lies under a blanket of snow. Woodcarvers from Brienz have created sculptural works of art from the timber felled by a devastating storm in 1999. Today, more than 100 woodcarvings flank the trail.
Some caution is advised around the ‘Gausband’ rock ledge. Otherwise, the gently undulating route leads through unspoilt forests, over glittering snowfields and then in a steep zigzag down to the mystical Hinterburgseeli lake, in whose cold waters only the brave dare bathe in summer. The same easy route leads back to the starting point on Axalp with magnificent views of the mountain scenery to the north of Lake Brienz.
