Descripción
Seewen is known for its Museum of Music Automatons, which features a huge collection from three centuries, including music boxes, orchestrions, fairground organs, in addition to the large, self-playing organ of the Britannic, the sister ship of the Titanic. They all provide an interesting musical museum experience. From the centre of the village, directly below St. German church with its Baroque towers, the walk to Wasserfallen begins, leading across gentle hills. Soon after, you reach the peaceful Baslerweiher pond. The artificial pond was originally created to supply drinking water to Basel. Now, however, the area is mostly a habitation for birds and reptiles. Near Weiherhof the path turns off and soon enters the forest.
The Luchere plain is reached via forest roads, leading past blooming orchards, pastures and farms to Grosse Zapfholdern with a view of Reigoldswil down below. The paved road takes you through a residential area to the village centre. Plans were made in the 19th century to open Reigoldswil to transportation with a new railway tunnel, but the company that was hired to build it went bankrupt when the tunnel was only half finished. The project was abandoned in favour of today’s Hauenstein route. Reigoldswil was also known for silk ribbon weaving which was introduced as a cottage industry back then. However, because of the world economic crisis in the 1930s the work quickly came to a standstill.
The last part of the tour passes the centre of the village and continues along the road and the Hintere Frenke River to the gondola. For those who are ready to give their legs a rest, the gondola is a great alternative to travel from Reigoldswil to Wasserfallen, because on foot it is a climb of approximately 400 meters in altitude. The path first leads across blooming meadows and then turns into the forest and crosses the Frenke once and Säuschwänkibach twice before it ends at the Wasserfallen gondola station. The last part of the road is also used by scooters.
