Inleiding
On the Chasseral ridge, high above the lakes, this cross-country skiing track leads through varied scenery that is very typical of the Bernese Jura. It boasts fantastic panoramic views of Lake Neuchâtel, the plateau and the Alps.
Beschrijving
Starting from the cross-country skiing centre, the track leads you first to "Place Bison" at 1200 metres. If you make a small diversion, you can admire a big herd of North American bison at close quarters. They belong to the local Bison Ranch. After a gentle climb of just over two kilometres, you reach the area called Zentralplatz at 1288 metres. This highest point on the route is also a real highlight: from here, a good six kilometres east of the Chasseral, in clear weather you can enjoy wonderful panoramic views of Lake Neuchâtel, Lake Murten and the Alps.
Then you come to the «Pässli» («little pass»): the track goes gently downhill on the north side of the ridge which forms the easternmost tip of the Chasseral. It passes the Métairie de Gléresse and the Métairie de Jobert, two authentic mountain inns typical of the Chasseral area. On this flat, easy stretch of the route, cross-country skiers are surrounded by amazing, almost "Scandinavian" scenery. The snow conditions here are particularly good, generally better than on the south side of the ridge. At "East Point", the easternmost point, the route turns. Heading westwards now, you first follow a forest track gently downhill and then go briefly up again to the Alp Pré-Carrel. Once again, some wonderful views of the Alps await you.
The last section of the trail is quite long and passes through very varied scenery: going mostly downhill, it takes you past the Métairie d’Evilard (Leubringenberg), and back to "Place Bison" and your starting point. As you go, your gaze is irresistibly drawn across the plateau to the mighty Chasseral with its towering summit.
De sleutel voor een prettige wandeltocht is onder andere een zorgvuldige planning. Win op voorhand inlichtingen in bij de plaatselijke informatiedienst over de toestand van het traject en de weersomstandigheden. Afhankelijk van het seizoen en de weersomstandigheden kan de route gesloten of onderbroken zijn.
