Inleiding
Snow-covered landscapes, tranquillity and an impressive natural experience: explore the gently rolling hills between Wasserfallen and the Passwang region in splendid style with a pair of snowshoes.
Beschrijving
After arriving by gondola, the tour starts directly by the Wasserfallen mountain station. The typical folded mountain landscape of the Jura is exhibited along the path to the Vogelberg mountain, with its forests, rock ledges and the open fields with their farmsteads. The «ribbing» of the Jura can be seen particularly nicely when crossing between Wasserfallen and the Vogelberg.
In winter, snowshoe trekkers are immersed in a fascinating, unspoilt, tranquil hilly landscape. In clear weather, on top of the Vogelberg you can enjoy a 360° view into the distance: to the northwest this stretches from the city of Basel to the Vosges in Alsace, while the Black Forest can be seen in the north. To the south Switzerland's snow-covered Alps of the Eiger, Mönch, Jungfrau, Titlis, Rigi and Säntis are visible.
Situated in close proximity to the Vogelberg is the Passwang, a mountain ridge and particularly beautiful lookout point (1,204 m above sea level). The pass of the same name links the Laufental valley and Schwarzbubenland with Balsthal valley, the southern foot of the Jura and thus also with central Switzerland. The road has existed since the Middle Ages and at its highest point traverses the rocky Jura ridge in a tunnel.
De sleutel voor een prettige wandeltocht is onder andere een zorgvuldige planning. Win op voorhand inlichtingen in bij de plaatselijke informatiedienst over de toestand van het traject en de weersomstandigheden. Afhankelijk van het seizoen en de weersomstandigheden kan de route gesloten of onderbroken zijn.
