Spend time in a museum in summer? Why not? Whether inside or outside, Switzerland’s art museums have plenty to attract visitors of all ages, even at the warmest time of the year. Presenting 10 highlights.

Sophie Calle in the Fotomuseum.

Fotomuseum Winterthur: from Friday, 7 June 2019. Sophie Calle (*1953) is regarded as one of the most influential artists of the present day. She tells stories through photographs and combines these with the written word. The Fotomuseum Winterthur, in collaboration with the Kunstmuseum Thun, presents the artist’s extensive work in a two-part exhibition for the first time in Switzerland. Entitled “Sophie Calle – Un certain regard”, the exhibition in the Fotomuseum opens on 7 June. The highlight of the opening will be a musical intervention by Swiss musician Stephan Eicher with his “Traktorkestar”. Special guest: Sophie Calle. Second part: “Sophie Calle – Regard incertain” at the Kunstmuseum Thun, 7 September to 1 December 2019.

Kunstmuseum Basel is “ON”.

“ON. Summer Art Event” in Kunstmuseum Basel: Saturday, 15 June 2019. For the first time, Kunstmuseum Basel is organising an interdisciplinary event that combines design, art and music. Working in collaboration with Basel-based creative agency Planisphere, it has devised an event concept that incorporates a first-rate contemporary music programme (including Aïsha Devi, Flying Lotus and Laurel Halo).
