Crosswinds

Musical and choreographic metamorphoses of dance styles before 1600 - Since the emergence of the first dance repertoire, choreographic and musical forms have been circulating, transforming, being varied, quoted and rewritten. Melodies and dances respond to each other, reinvent each other and transcend boundaries.

Crosswinds explores the connections between musical forms and choreographic practices at the roots of dance history. Through a combination of rigorous reconstruction of the earliest tracts and contemporary movement explorations, this creation weaves the invisible thread that connects forms and impulses through time. Crosswinds tells - of the dignity of courtly dances, the spectacular variations of the dance masters and the power of rural dances. The connection between music and movement becomes visible.
