THE KING IS DYING
Visão geral
Introdução
Arquidam Company / VS – Creation
What is happening in the kingdom of Bérenger I? The walls are cracking, and the conquered territories are falling into huge holes. The king doesn’t have much time left: The king is dying… Yet Béranger is a man viscerally attached to life and to the world he has built around himself. He refuses to hear the truth about his impending death. He resists, struggles, alternately nonchalant, tyrannical, amorous, unjust, generous, anxious, hedonistic, and selfish. Torn in different directions by his two wives, he comes to terms with his impending demise.*The King Is Dying* occupies a central place in Ionesco’s body of work. While his early plays explore the absurdity of language and communication, this one focuses on the absurdity of the human condition in the face of death. It marks a shift toward more existential and universal themes.Team: Text by Eugène Ionesco Directed by Séverine Zufferey Cast: Frédéric Lugon, Jacynthe Lamon, Mehdi Duman, and Maxime Cordonier Sound by Luca Gilloz Lighting and Stage Management by Romain Cottier Produced by Cie Arquidam Co-produced by Théâtre Indocile
