On the occasion of the retrospective dedicated to Kaari Upson, opening on Saturday, 5 September 2026, MASI Lugano brings together the three curators who have accompanied the exhibition on its international journey: Anders Kold, Johan Holten and Francesca Benini.
Originating at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Humlebæk, Denmark, and developed in collaboration with Kunsthalle Mannheim and MASI Lugano, the retrospective provides the starting point for a conversation about what it means today to develop an exhibition across different institutions, architectural settings and audiences.
The conversation will offer a behind-the-scenes look at the project, exploring how each presentation is not simply a replica of the previous one, but a new interpretation of the exhibition, shaped in relation to its host museum and audience. The discussion will also address the value of collaboration between institutions, including in terms of sustainability and the sharing of resources.
