Mike Maurer's Thunder Blues Band Mike's Band back in the Simmental with blues at its finest!

The fact that Mike Maurer's name is (still) not so well known to blues audiences may be related to the fact that Mike has been active in many styles for the past 40 years, from rock to rhythm and blues and jazz. As a alphorn player, he has traveled half the world.

Yet blues has been a common thread throughout Maurer's career: His bands' programs (Silent Crash, Soulin’ Crash, Al P. Horn & the Funk Preachers, Uptown Big Band, etc.) always included pure blues numbers. Mike played, among others, in the cult combo IGIM Blues Band, or with Span, Jammin’, and with the Lazy Poker Blues Band.

The horn section "The Thunder Horns" was the go-to address for brass arrangements for over two decades, whether live or in the studio. The appreciation of the scene insiders was expressed in invitations to the "Swiss Blues Legends" concerts in 2017 in Baden or to the Blues Zeppelin anniversary festival in 2019 in Bern. Now the time is ripe for a pure blues project. After 25 years, there will be a collaboration again with Rolf "LL" Lüthi. Rolf and Mike have played together in various bands and also co-written songs (Silent Crash, Soulin’ Crash, LL & the Handimen). With the Shuffle Kings Charlie Weibel, Drums and René Eberhard, Bass, the experienced and seaworthy desired rhythm section is also on board.

It will be exciting to see how the journey unfolds! "Like a rolling Thunder from over yonder!”

Dave Ruosch Trio

Swing, Blues, Boogie & Classic meets Jazz

David Ruosch Piano, Luca Leombruni Double Bass Martin Meyer Drums

Dave Ruosch is probably the most traditional of the Swiss jazz and blues pianists. He is not one to worship the ashes of the past but rather carries on the fire of an Erroll Garner, Oscar Peterson, Albert Ammons, or a Mary Lou Williams. He has studied and internalized the African American piano styles of the 20th century and brings them to the stages of Europe with much playfulness, creativity, and ease, whether Harlem Stride, Boogie Woogie, Chicago Blues, or Ragtime. One of his specialties is transforming classical music works into jazz, such as the overture to Rossini’s "Barber of Seville."

With his long-time companions Luca Leombruni on bass and drummer Martin Meyer, the Swiss Gene Krupa, he is perfectly tuned. Swinging together is almost a divine mission for them. Swing makes sense.
