Caroling by the Lucerne Minstrels
概览
简介
On December 19, about 100 carolers from the Luzerner Spielleute will parade through the Old Town. They will perform traditional Christmas plays with a choir at three different locations.
On Saturday, December 19, the carolers of the Luzerner Spielleute will make their way through Lucerne’s Old Town with their lights and songs. This tradition, revived in 1938 by the Luzerner Spielleute and lovingly preserved ever since, takes place on the fourth weekend of Advent, helping to bring the Advent season in Lucerne to a contemplative close.
The group, comprising about 100 people, is led by the Advent wreath bearers and the choir, followed by the Star, the Three Wise Men with their entourage, and the Holy Family, accompanied by shepherds and sheep. A simple, staged Christmas play is performed in three squares in the Old Town—Mühleplatz, Kornmarkt, and Jesuitenplatz. The specially assembled choir, conducted by Valérie Halter, accompanies the play with renditions of traditional Christmas carols. Most of the singers are also active members of other choirs in the region.
