Switzerland has an abundance of lakes and rivers, making it the perfect place for a romantic boat trip through unique natural landscapes and past historic towns and wildly romantic mountain scenery.

Lake Lucerne – the lake with a labyrinthine shape

Passengers aboard the nostalgic paddle steamers and elegant saloon motor vessels can take in everything that the primeval nature of Central Switzerland has to offer as they cover the 38km length of Lake Lucerne.

Lake Maggiore – the lake connecting two countries

Lake Maggiore boasts an international shipping service, because the lake connects the Italian-speaking part of Switzerland with Piedmont and Lombardy in Italy. Boats also bring passengers from Locarno to Stresa, for example, passing wildly romantic mountain scenery and little villages along the way.

Lake Thun – the biggest lake in the canton of Bern

A total of 14 boats, two of which are paddle steamers, operate on Lakes Thun and Brienz. A boat trip on one of these fascinating lakes amidst the impressive mountain world of the Bernese Oberland is a chance to experience unique nature in a greatly relaxing way.

Jura & Three-Lakes – a unique waterway

Jura & Three-Lakes is a picturesque mountain landscape. Embedded in this charming area lie the three large lakes of the Jura: lakes Biel, Neuchâtel and Murten, which are linked together by the Broye and Zihl canals and the Aare river to form one unique waterway. Boats travel on this waterway and are the best way to explore the entire lakes region.

Lake Constance – the third-largest freshwater lake in Europe

On Lake Constance, the boats of the Swiss Lake Constance Navigation Company connect lakeside towns and sights. They pass quaint old towns such as Romanshorn, Arbon and Rorschach. Boats also stop at the island of Mainau.

Aare – the longest river entirely within Switzerland

In the Baroque town of Solothurn, visitors can climb aboard the Siesta semi-catamaran. This catamaran offers the only river cruise on the Aare and slowly makes its way to Biel, passing the famous Altreu stork colony, the medieval town of Büren and the nearby Jura hills along the way.

Lake Geneva – the largest freshwater lake in Central Europe

Belle Époque boats have been cruising on Lake Geneva for the past 140 years. From the boat, passengers can enjoy glorious views of ports, castles, vineyards and snow-capped mountains. Those wishing to set foot on dry land along the way can embark on an adventurous city tour or other fascinating excursion.

Lake Zurich – the almost banana-shaped lake

Each day, the Lake Zurich Navigation Company offers visitors many different boat tours to all parts of the lake and along the Limmat river. On these trips, passengers can relax and enjoy the passing scenery. The dream boats are just the ticket for a truly special experience. They include a Cheese Fondue Cruise, Steamboat Dinner and Late Risers’ Brunch.

Lake Sils – the glorious Alpine lake

Over the summer months, Europe’s highest scheduled boat service transports passengers at an altitude of 1,800m, setting out in Sils Maria and crossing Lake Sils in around 40 minutes. The Segl-Maria motor vessel ploughs across the lake from Sils Maria to Maloja, stopping at the Chastè peninsula, Plaun da Lej and Isola along the way.

Walensee – the 12th largest lake in Switzerland

Back in 1837, the first steamer crossed the Walensee, which lies between the steep rock faces of the Churfirsten and the Sardona region. Today, ferries cross the crystal-clear turquoise waters all year round. In addition to the normal timetable, culinary cruises are also on offer.

The Rhine – one of the busiest waterways in Europe

Passengers can enjoy one of the finest river journeys in Europe as they pass unspoiled Rhine landscapes and idyllic Lower Lake Constance. This promises to be an impressive nature experience, while also boasting a wealth of cultural highlights and towns rich in history.
