Intro

“Waldlicht Lou is looking for a home”: Opened in summer 2023, this adventure trail allows families to discover the nature and diversity of the Aarau forest together. The trail leads past Roggenhausen Wildlife Park, another great option if you’d like to extend your visit.

The mythical creature by the name of Lou has found himself in the forest near Aarau after having fallen off an eagle’s back. Now Lou is looking for a new home – and will need to go on a few adventures to get there. This lovingly designed story is the focus of the new adventure trail in the Aarau forest. It is told step-by-step over a total of 14 stations and, by scanning a QR code, the story can be easily played back on a smartphone. There is also a game element at each station that complements the narrative. Whether climbing in the quarry, making music with wood or feeling the forest floor – the story is experienced with all the senses. Along the way, visitors of all ages will become better acquainted with the forest and its inhabitants, and learn more about the importance of friendship. This makes the walk an entertaining and educational excursion for the whole family.

The 3.5-kilometre-long adventure trail takes around three hours to complete and is accessible free of charge all year round. Along the way, visitors can stop off at various fire pits and playgrounds or enjoy a picnic. The adventure trail can be combined with a detour to the neighbouring Roggenhausen Wildlife Park for a truly wonderful experience. If the trail seems too long in its entirety, you can start from the second part of the trail in Roggenhausen Wildlife Park, which can also be completed without having done the first section.

Roggenhausen Wildlife Park
Roggenhausen Wildlife Park has been a popular destination for families for over 100 years. Nestled in the nature of the valley of the same name, it offers experiences for an idyllic day trip. Wild animals as well as rare domestic species can be observed from up close or even fed and stroked. An excursion restaurant, various rest and barbecue areas as well as the spacious playground – together with the extremely popular scooter track – round off the experience.

How to get there:
The bus from Aarau railway station reaches the Pestalozzistrasse or Schanz bus stops in around three minutes. The start is a five-minute walk from the bus stops.
Parking is available at Obere Schanz, subject to a charge.
