In her paintings, Helga Zumstein (b. 1966) takes seemingly mundane everyday situations and uses them as a starting point for exploring profound human themes. Her paintings speak of closeness, security, tenderness, and love—deliberately understated alternatives to a world she knows is not all roses. It is precisely this realization that leads her to view her work as an active contribution to a better world. In her work, the everyday becomes a vehicle for hope, empathy, and quiet resistance.
