“My artistic work encompasses painting, drawing, and screen printing. The motifs are drawn primarily from fashion and ornamental design. Through these motifs, I hope to deconstruct and reflect on the clichés associated with the medium of painting. I work sequentially and produce groups of works organized into individual series that are formally and conceptually distinct.
I am interested in the social, economic, and cultural contexts in which I find myself—or might find myself—through my artistic practice. I reflect on how to survive within a capitalist, market-driven art system, as well as on systems of community, support, friendship, and care that could be established as alternative mechanisms.
My artistic practice has expanded from studio work to nurturing friendships and my political engagement. Painting is intimately connected to my life. When I speak of my painting, I am also speaking of what exists alongside it: my environment and myself. Politics and pop culture. The spaces where I find myself and those where I am not. My dreams, my desires, and my reality.
Ultimately, I hope, in the future, to be part of a supportive, broader, and richer artistic system—one founded on support, friendship, and care.”
