Loipe Gisliflueh–Staffelegg
Overview
Intro
Varied circular route under the crest of the Gisliflue in the Jura mountains of Aargau. Partly through the wood, and partly along the wood's edge, the route provides magnificent views over the Jura mountains close by to the entire Alpine range.
Description
When there is plenty of snow, the Gisliflue area, close to Aarau, offers plenty of sport and recreation in the regional park "Jurapark Aargau".
The Staffelegg Pass connects the capital of the canton with the region of Fricktal; the ski run starts at the mountain pass. In the typical Jura landscape, it is surrounded by several mountains with wonderful views, such as the Wasserflue (843 metres above sea level) and the eponymous Gisliflue (772 metres above sea level). The mountain is said to be one of the most beautiful lookout points in the entire canton. From the summit, you have a virtually all-round, 360-degree panorama of the midland, the Jura, the Alps and the Black Forest. Along the edge of the wood, the circular run first leads along the north side of the Homberg to Gatter. When the weather is good, the small clearing offers a fantastic view of the Alps. Up to the Gislimatt, the run meanders its way through the mixed beech forest under the Gisliflue ridge.
Shortly after the eastern turning point of the run, the Naturfreundehaus (Friends of Nature House), with food and drink on Sundays, is the perfect place for a break with a view over the Schenkenbergertal valley and of the ruined Schenkenberg Castle. The castle was built in the 13th century on the order of the Habsburgs. Some of the houses in the hamlet of Rischeln that you can see on the way back to the Staffelegg Pass were built with stones from the ruins.
