The steep ascent across meadows, fields and along the ski lift is richly rewarded: the Cabane de la Sarouche spoils you not only with culinary delights, but also with a magnificent view of the mountains and down to Château-d'Oex.
Description
Old, ornate chalets in the midst of a magnificent mountain landscape - this is typical of the villages of the Pays-d'Enhaut. The snowshoe hike starts not far from the hot-air balloon metropolis of Château-d'Oex at the bottom station in the hamlet of Gérignoz. After a warm-up of about 300 metres, you leave the road and the trail climbs gently along the edge of the forest. Shortly before the forest and the bridge, you turn off and head mostly uphill across open and snow-covered fields. Once you reach the chairlift which takes winter sports enthusiasts from Château-d'Oex to the La Braye ski area, the most strenuous part of the hike ensues: the trail mainly follows the chairlift all the way up to the La Montagnette top station, the highest point of the route.
Fortunately, the next destination with its mountain restaurant, La Sarouche, is not far away. Just before taking a break there, be sure to admire the view: Château-d'Oex is hardly recognisable from here, it seems so tiny. The mountains now tower up in front of you, including the Pointe de Paray, the Vanil carré and other peaks that form a picturesque backdrop.
The hike continues to the well-known Cabane de la Sarouche. Situated at an altitude of around 1500 metres, it is embedded in unspoilt nature. Your stamina will pay off on the sunny panoramic terrace or in front of the fireplace with a cup of tea. The way back continues downhill, steeper at first until La Perrette and then gentler. Once back at the cable car, follow the ascent route towards Gérignoz.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
