The circular hike in the heart of the Val d'Entremont leads up to the summit of the Tsamonay, affording impressive 360-degree views of the mighty Combin massif and Mont Dolent, located in the border triangle. The sleepy mountain valley surprises with charming villages, sunny slopes and amazing views of the highest peaks in the Alps.
Description
The tour in the Val d'Entremont starts just above the hamlet of Vichères. From the very start, the view over the mountain valley surrounded by rock massifs is stunning. Before the trail enters the forest, the views of Mont Rogneux, the Grand Laget, and the striking Combin massif are well worth enjoying.
From here, you can see the entrance to the Val d'Entremont with the main village of Liddes and its scattered hamlets. There are more than 60 inhabited villages and hamlets in the valley, which in 1850 was one of the districts with the most inhabitants in the Valais. The Great St. Bernard Pass was already a vital connection to Italy in Roman times and added to the valley's importance.
Leaving the small ski area of Vichères behind, you enter the tranquillity of the sparse larch forest, where the snow falls softly from the branches. At the end of the forest road, it gets a little steeper. The trail winds its way over the ridge to the Tsamonay summit. At 2,111 metres, the tour has reached its highest point. The panoramic views of the Aiguille d'Argentière with the impressive Saleina glacier, the striking Mont Dolent and the Combin massif with its 4,000-metre peaks are fantastic.
On the descent, you come to the ski slope and follow the markings downhill across the snow-covered meadows. Passing the tiny hamlet of Dzâye, you are almost at your destination and reach the ski lift station after a few minutes.
