This fascinating panorama trail follows the route of the old Rigi Scheidegg Railway on flat terrain as far as Unterstetten, then continues on a gentle incline to Rigi Scheidegg.
Description
The hiking trail traces the route of the old railway from Rigi Kaltbad to Rigi Scheidegg (1874 to 1931). Apart from the slight incline at the end before Rigi Scheidegg, the path is flat and thus ideal for leisure hikers. There is plenty of evidence of the former line to discover along the way, as the route runs over old railway bridges and through a tunnel.
Hikers will also encounter a disused carriage from the historic Rigi Scheidegg Railway, now used as a holiday home, a water station for the steam locomotives and a few distance markers. The view of the Alps and the Schwyz valley is magnificent. From Rigi Scheidegg, a comfortable cable car runs back to Goldau via Kräbel.
