Golf in Zurich Region

The southeastern corner of the former town fortification, the Gunpowder Tower, was built between 1522 and 1532 and was used to store gunpowder. Its external diameter is about 14 m, the inner diameter 8.5 m.

Steamboats operate scheduled services on eight of Switzerland's lakes today. Thanks to donations, the “Stadt Zürich” and “Stadt Rapperswil” have also been saved from the scrapyard. The two paddle steamers were renovated between 2003 and May 2006, and are now in use almost every day.

In 1540 the Zug Council decided to erect a fountain on Linden Square and in the documentation there is mention of a painter, Anton, who presumably was given the contract to lay the foundations.

At the turn of the twentieth century, the gasworks in Schlieren was the biggest in Switzerland. The largely well-preserved ensemble comprises a number of impressive industrial buildings plus some attractive factory-owned housing – from the director's villa to the workers' quarters.
