Intro

Ten minutes of playful whoops, pure fun, snowy splendour and adrenaline rushes: The Gornergrat sledge run is one of the most beautiful in the Alps – and the hightest in Switzerland. The Alpine panorama of Zermatt with a view of the Matterhorn offers sledgers the best landscape you could dream of.

Description

The sledge run from Rotenboden (2,813m) to Riffelberg is the highest in Switzerland! At the top, the views of the Matterhorn and summits such as the Hörnligrat or the Zmuttgrat are breathtaking.

Sledgers then face a descent with an altitude difference of 234 metres between Rotenboden and Riffelberg, leaving hardly any time to take in the Alpine panorama. Sledging is a breeze: no need to think too much, just set-off and follow the route. Every twentyfour minutes, the Gornergrat Railway takes you back to the top of the sledge run. It’s an amazing experience for all the family.

For experienced sledgers who would like to add a challenge to their descent, Ghosky sledges can be rented in the mountain resort of Rotenboden. These models are faster than the traditional sledges, but are also more difficult to steer. Also available to rent is a Snooc, which is a seat fixed onto a short ski. You won’t forget this day in a hurry! It's also worth remembering that Rotenboden is the starting point for a host of different adventures, especially in the direction of the Mont-Rose mountain hut.

An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
