Aletsch Arena
Intro
Discover the Aletsch Arena, the Valais holiday paradise with the car-free destinations of Riederalp, Bettmeralp and Fiescheralp. The centrepiece is the Great Aletsch Glacier, an UNESCO World Heritage Site. Experience the ice stream up close – while hiking, skiing or on a glacier tour.
This is the Aletsch Arena
The Aletsch Arena lies in the south of Switzerland in the Valais. The area around the longest glacier in the Alps forms part of the UNESCO Swiss Alps Jungfrau-Aletsch World Heritage Site and is one of Switzerland’s top travel destinations.Discover the Aletsch Arena
In the Aletsch Arena you can get up close to the mighty Aletsch Glacier. Six cableways lead up from the Rhone Valley to the car-free, sun-drenched plateau with the resorts of Riederalp, Bettmeralp, and Fiescheralp. The best views of the river of ice are from the Hohfluh, Moosfluh, Bettmerhorn, and Eggishorn viewpoints, some with information panels and telescopes. Wherever you stand, the vistas of the glacier and the Valais peaks are overwhelming.Aletsch Glacier Tours
There are 300 kilometres of hiking trails: explore the Aletsch Arena on foot, for example on the circular hike from the Bettmerhorn via the Märjelensee to Bettmeralp. Or walk through the magical Aletsch Forest with its ancient Swiss stone pines. A unique experience is a glacier expedition: with an experienced mountain guide and proper safety gear, you set off across the ice. A spectacular insight into the glacial world is offered by the tour to the ice caves. The Aletsch Arena for Winter Sports Fans
In winter, the Aletsch Arena transforms into a winter sports paradise. Thanks to the elevation, snow conditions are excellent. On the car-free plateau you also enjoy ski-in/ski-out access – straight from your chalet onto the slopes. Highlights include “First Track Bettmerhorn”, where you carve the first turns on freshly groomed pistes, and the glacier panorama ski tour. Snowshoeing, sledging, and cross-country skiing are also very popular.Around the Aletsch Arena
Not far from the Aletsch Arena lies Brig, with the Stockalper Palace and the Simplon Pass. In Naters, it’s worth visiting the World Nature Forum with its fascinating exhibition on the UNESCO Swiss Alps Jungfrau-Aletsch World Heritage Site. Other excursion tips include the Massa Gorge, the Saastal, and of course the Matterhorn.Experience the Aletsch Arena for less
With the Aletsch Arena Visitor's Card, you benefit from discounts on mountain railways, sports facilities, and events. The Aletsch Explorer Pass is your ticket for sightseeing and hiking: it gives you free travel for one or more days within the Aletsch Arena.Impressions
