Panoramaweg Niederhorn–Waldegg
Overview
Intro
Above Lake Thun, a continuous downhill trail from Mount Niederhorn to the hamlet of Waldegg. The combination of snow-covered mountains and views of Lake Thun is unparalleled. Enchanting vistas await you at 1950 metres above sea level.
Description
Hike along level and well-groomed trails at 1950 metres above sea level towards Burgfeld and take in the fabulous views to both sides of the mountain ridge. This trail is also suitable for less experienced hikers. The breathtaking views from the ridge stretch far to the horizon. To your left, you will see the Justistal valley and to your right the famous Bernese Alps with the deep blue waters of Lake Thun below. The small pine forest with its blanket of snow makes for a fairytale setting.
Following a steep but short descent, the ascent to the Oberburgfeld Hut begins. With wonderful views opening up above the treeline, it is well worth taking this section of the hike at a leisurely pace.
From Alp Chüematte, the trail leads downhill in the direction of Hohwald to the top station of the Hohwald ski lift. The somewhat steeper descent to Beatenberg rewards you with magnificent views of Lake Thun and Mount Niesen. The end point of the hike in the hamlet of Waldegg is near, giving you the opportunity enjoy refreshments or take advantage of post bus connections to Beatenberg or Interlaken West.
