Puccini drew inspiration for his fourth opera from Henri Murger's serialized novel "Scènes de la vie de Bohème" and the play "Mademoiselle Mimi Pinson" by Alfred de Musset. The world premiere of "La Bohème" took place in Turin on February 1, 1896. On the podium: the young Arturo Toscanini.
