There is quite a contrast between the southern village of Martigny at the elbow of the Rhone and the wilderness of Durnand Gorge, or the Gorges du Durnand as it is called in French.

What sounds like distant thunder soon turns out to be toboggans hurtling down the 535-m-long tin toboggan run.

Safe and secure all the way, you traverse some truly impressive rock formations as you make your way up a total 305-meter climb in around 2 hours to find yourself at the top of the Eggishorn - best vantage point on the grand Aletsch Glacier and end point of the via ferrata.

The Schöllenen Gorge is to the Gotthard Pass as the Gondo Gorge is to the Simplon Pass.

Visitors of all ages to the popular Sattel-Hochstuckli family holiday destination can enjoy an unforgettable experience on the interactive “Geissä Wäg”, or Goat Trail. This rope park in the trees by the Signal de Bougy offers 15 courses of increasing levels of difficulty. Five courses are also suitable for children over the age of four. There is a restaurant next to the park and a picnic spot under a yurt.

There’s only one place to bob-ride and that’s in Schongi – as much and as often as you like.

Arranged wholly in the style of its French (or western Swiss) predecessors, this via ferrata has optimum safety. The views across and down into the Val de Travers from above, on the broad rock barrier, are very appealing. The route is 550 metres long, largely following natural ledges, where the safety rope generally also serves as a hand-hold rope. The site is closed from January 1 to June  30 and cannot be climbed then (it is the nesting period for the wallcreeper).

The route across the west wall calls for people who move at height as fearlessly as mountain goats. And it benefits from the afternoon sun.

The Trient Gorge was carved out of the Mont Blanc massif by the wild river of the same name. The 200-metre deep gorge is a paradise for both climbers and botanists.

A truly spectacular route in the granite rocks of the Schöllenen gorge, albeit with plenty of grass in between. There are fascinating views down into the wild gorge and its roads.

The medieval town of La Neuveville on Lake Biel has something for the whole family to enjoy, from an easy three-hour walk packed with tales of witches to the lake shore and colourful old town.
