Mediterranean Weesen you will climb up to the mountain village Amden, which is surrounded by a pre-Alpine landscape. A thrilling downhill leads you back to Weesen.
Description
Amden is well-known as a “sun terrace” above Lake Walen. The historic town Weesen is directly located on the shores of Lake Walen. Both villages offer summer and winter specials so that an Alpine idyll forms a perfect symbiosis with a Mediterranean beach atmosphere.
This picturesque tour reveals the close affinity of the versatile landscapes in an impressive way.
After starting in Weesen, there is a long and steady climb until you reach the highest point of the route at Underbütz, at an altitude of around 1,300 metres. The last two hundred metres of elevation gain between Matt and Underbütz are particularly tough: you need to be very fit on this steep and bumpy trail, to be able to remain on it for the ascent. However, there are always moments when you can relax and enjoy the superb view of the craggy Glarus Alps and turquoise blue Lake Walen.
The racy downhill is a pure pleasure. If this tour is made in clockwise direction, you will enjoy almost absolute silence in a car-free rural environment. The lakeside promenade and beaches around Weesen offer a perfect opportunity to end a pleasant day.
