Senda Sursilvana
Overview
Intro
This stage focuses on the fascination of the Flims rock slide. Gain an impression of its dimension from the new vantage platform at Conn. Gold was mined at Calanda, between Tamins and Felsberg, in the 19th century.
Description
Laax means lake. And there are a few of these in the nearby area: Lake Laax, Lake Cresta or the most famous, Lake Cauma. Of these, however, only Lake Laax was created by the Flims landslide almost 10,000 years ago.
After Laax, the path soon dives into the forest. Following the forest road, you catch a glimpse of the beautiful, turquoise Lake Cauma. Further on, you continue down to the impressive Ruinaulta. The rubble from the Flims landslide dammed the Rhine to a height of 90 metres. Over thousands of years, the water ate through the mass of the landslide, forming the impressive Rhine Gorge.
Forest and pasture sections alternate as far as Digg. The Surselva region has now been abandoned. A slightly exposed section soon follows near Ruvreu, but is well secured with chains. In Tamins, half the route is complete after almost four hours. The village and district of Reichenau lie at the confluence of the Vorderrhein and Hinterrhein.
Past the eye-catching church built on an exposed hill, you walk towards the banks of the Rhine, which you reach at Rütenen. You continue hiking for over half an hour on an attractive path on the river bank to the bridge that crosses the Rhine. Now comes the last hour of the hike: past the Obere Au, the commercial zone outside Chur, and through residential areas, you reach the train station in the capital of Grisons, and thus the end of the attractive Senda Sursilvana.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
