Skitour Gemsfairen-Clariden
Overview
Intro
Two days in beautiful high-mountain landscapes
This exciting and varied ski tour takes you through impressive high-mountain landscapes. A perfect ski touring weekend for experienced skiers.
The ski tour across the Gemsfairen and the Clariden is, for good reason, a very popular ski touring destination in the Glarus Alps. The area between Uri and the Glarus region offers many long stretches and perfect skiing terrain. Things get especially adventurous at Iswändli.
Welcome, fellow mountaineer. We’re glad you’ve found your way to our Glarnerland Alpine School and, by extension, to these beautiful mountains. Here, between the mountains and the valley, there’s so much to discover. Together with other mountaineers and our mountain guides, we’d love to take you on an adventure.
To ensure you’re fully prepared for this tour, please read the following carefully.
Prerequisites
You have some experience with ski touring, and kick turns are no problem for you. You’re fit enough for a five-hour ascent on touring skis.
Day 1: Walking time without breaks: approx. 3.5 hours; ascent: 950 meters; descent: 550 meters
Travel to the starting point at Tödi Sport in Glarus. After checking your gear, you’ll head together to Urner Boden and take the cable car up to the Fisetengrat. Via the Gemsfairenstock, you’ll take the south-facing descent to the Clariden Hut. You can round out the evening in a relaxed atmosphere at the regulars’ table of the Glarnerland Alpine School with a delicious meal.
Day 2: Walking time without breaks approx. 4 hours, ascent 1,050 m, descent 2,150 m
After breakfast, the ski route leads through a varied mountain landscape across the Claridenfirn to the imposing cross on the summit of the Clariden. With the Tödi always in view, the route continues over the Clariden Pass and, after a short climb, to the Chammlijoch. Then begins a thrilling descent across the wide slopes to the Klausen Pass and back to Urnerboden. Finally, we’ll return together to Glarus.
Meeting Point
We’ll meet at 8:00 a.m. at the starting point of the Glarnerland Alpine School at Tödi Sport, Hauptstrasse 41 in Glarus. If you need to rent equipment or have made a reservation, please be there by 7:30 a.m. (30 minutes earlier) to pick up your gear.
Directions/Parking
The Glarnerland Alpine School is just a 5-minute walk from the train station. Please follow the City of Glarus’ parking guidelines (https://www.glarus.ch/verwaltung/bau-und-versorgung/parkraumbewirtschaftung/langzeit-und-nachtparkieren.html/6346) and park only in the white zones. These are located near the city center. We recommend parking your car at Kasernenplatz or Zaunplatz and purchasing a parking ticket via the ParkingPay app.
Snowboarders
Snowboarders with appropriate touring experience and the necessary equipment are, of course, welcome on our tours. We require participants to be proficient in using a splitboard. The tours are conducted with a mix of ski tourers and snowboarders. Unfortunately, we do not rent splitboards.
