Intro

The Fribourg region has a lot to offer, and sustainability can take a front seat as you discover the area. Spend three days discovering the region’s medieval capital, as well as its cool gorges and Mediterranean beaches. The Fribourg region also boasts an array of culinary delights. Last but not least, you’ll always find the right Swisstainable accommodation for all your needs.

Day 1

In the morning: Take a walk around Fribourg
The first day begins with a walk around the medieval town of Fribourg. It feels like being in an open-air museum. The intact walls surrounding the city and over 200 unique Gothic facades give Fribourg an incomparable mediaeval charm. This lively university town is a cosmopolitan mini-metropolis. The tiny alleyways are filled with boutiques, antique shops, cafes and restaurants serving local specialities.

In the afternoon: Discovery tour on the water
Give your feet a rest for the afternoon by taking a trip on the “d’Grandfey”, a solar-powered electric cruiser. Enjoy the breathtaking scenery around the Schiffenen reservoir on the approximately 1.5-hour boat trip and learn interesting facts about the cultural heritage along the shore, which includes a dam, castles, a hermitage and various bridges.

Day 2

In the morning: A chocolate adventure
Hop on the train from Fribourg to Broc, and in just under one hour, you’ll be at Maison Cailler. An exciting mix of activities await you there, and you’re sure to make some great memories, whether you’re travelling solo or with family and friends. Embark in an interactive, one-hour tour and immerse yourself in the history of chocolate, taking you back to the ancient Aztecs and showing you the latest innovations. Tastings included! Definitely an excursion for all the senses.

In the afternoon: Explore a gorge
After an indulgent morning, we’ll head for the spectacular and wildly romantic Jaunbach Gorge, which lies between Broc and Châtel-sur-Montsalvens. Wooden bridges, tunnels and rock galleries make this walk an adventurous outing for the entire family.

Day 3

In the morning: Discovering nature
From Fribourg, you can reach Estavayer-Le-Lac in less than 40 minutes by train. Today there is definite truth to the old proverb: The early bird catches the worm! The gentle lapping of the waves, the sun’s early warming rays and the sound of the birds’ chorus at dawn: Canoeing is the ideal way to discover the Grande Cariçaie nature reserve on Lake Neuchâtel during the summer months. The Grande Cariçaie, Switzerland’s largest lakeshore wetland, looks completely different when seen from Lake Neuchâtel. A canoeing expedition in the company of a naturalist promises a completely new way to experience nature. With a clear view unobstructed by trees or reeds, visitors can get up close and personal with nature, enjoying the sight of a cormorant in flight, admiring the nest of a great crested grebe or watching the rhythmic movements of a family of red-crested ducks.

In the afternoon: Holiday mood on Fribourg beach
In the afternoon: Dolce far niente or sun, sand and a holiday mood. The Grande Cariçaie area boasts several bathing areas with white sandy beaches, turquoise-blue waters and water sports activities on offer, competing with some of the world’s most famous beaches. And the best part? it’s all in harmony with nature.
