Cavorgia Bike
Overview
Intro
This circular bike route runs through the entire Disentis and Sedrun holiday region. Shady mountain forest alternates with great panoramas of glaciers and peaks. Pretty alpine farms and diverse flower meadows characterise this route.
Description
The route starts at Sedrun, the principal town in the municipality of Tujetsch, and heads north. The ascent leads along the road to Cungieri, where you can fully take in the colourful flower meadows of Cungieri. At the mountain restaurant Cungieri it's well worth enjoying the view one more time before you start coasting back down to Sedrun.
The second loop is reached via the stately bridge at Surrein south of Sedrun. Initially, the ascent follows the Rein da Nalps. The old fir trees in the Uaul Cavorgia provide shade along the way. The highest point of the second loop is the Stagias hill, which is surrounded by a young mixed forest. It is perfect for giving your legs a rest: you’ll find a fireplace with a fountain, a small pond and seating areas here. To the south, you have a clear view of the Piz Medel glacier.
Another look back to Sedrun and on we go: we roll comfortably down a gravel road with a view of the monastery village of Disentis towards Mumpé Medel. The name of this Walser village, translated as "metal valley", is no coincidence, since iron was mined here in the past. Should you not suddenly be tempted by the search for the veins of gold found here, you continue your ride in alternating ascents and descents. The single trail up to the alpine settlements of Fontauna requires concentration. An extra portion of oxygen can be inhaled between trees and bushes before the ride continues along a comfortable forest road towards the end. Crossing the Vorderrhein once again, the tour then ends in Sedrun.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
