Der Bergschwinget im Klöntal wurde im Jahre 1956 zum ersten Mal durch den Schwingklub Glarus beim Rhodannenberg durchgeführt. Bis 1970 wurde er im Turnus aller 2 Jahre abgehalten. Bereits bei der 2. Austragung im 1958 wurde der Schwingklub Glarus bei der Organisation durch den Jodelklub Glärnisch unterstützt. Ab 1970 wurde der Bergschwinget mit wenigen Ausnahmen jährlich organisiert. Im 2018 wurde die 50. Austragung gefeiert.
