Intro

Die erste Retrospektive in der Schweiz einer der führenden Künstlerinnen der europäischen Pop Art.

Kogelnik (1935–1997) arbeitete zuerst als expressionistische Malerin und entwickelte sich zu einer flamboyanten Vertreterin der Pop Art. Sie experimentierte mit Techniken der Collage und mit Airbrush, mit neuen Materialien wie Vinyl genauso wie mit dem traditionellen Werkstoff Keramik. Ihr gelang die visionäre Vorwegnahme von Themen, die heute mehr denn je aktuell sind: Genderfragen und sexuelle Identitäten, ethische Fragen rund um Spitzenforschung, insbesondere in der medizinischen Diagnostik, Rationalisierung und Miniaturisierung durch Robotik.

Die Ausstellung, kuratiert von Kunsthaus-Kuratorin Cathérine Hug in Kooperation mit Lisa Ortner-Kreil (Kunstforum Wien), vermittelt mit rund 150 teils sehr grossen Formaten aus vier Jahrzehnten künstlerischer Produktion ein Gesamtbild von Kogelniks vielfältigem Werk. Sie zeigt die kunsthistorische Bedeutung dieser Pionierin, die vorwiegend in New York, aber auch in Wien und Bleiburg arbeitete und sich zwischen bekannten Weggefährten wie Sam Francis und Claes Oldenburg oder ihren Zeitgenossinnen und Zeitgenossen wie Niki de Saint Phalle, Carolee Schneemann, Andy Warhol und Roy Lichtenstein souverän bewegte.
