Circuito di Lodano
Overview
Intro
This trail connects the picturesque Ticino villages of Lodano and Maggia. It runs across fields, through lush forests and past vineyards and small, typical stone houses. You keep catching a glimpse of the crystal blue Maggia River, which winds through the Maggia Valley surrounded by striking peaks.
Description
From the bus stop in Lodano, this unobstructed hiking trail first crosses the Maggia River. Then comes a detour to a picnic area. With barbecue areas, a playground, a biotope and plenty of seating, it is ideal for resting and spending some time. The area is located near the Rio di Lodano mountain stream, which flows through the Valle di Lodano. With its unique beech forests and rare plant species, the tributary valley is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The trail continues across a field towards Lodano with a view of the forests. The characteristic village is known for its traditional architecture with stone houses and narrow streets. From the trail that runs along the lower edge of the village, you can look up to the parish church of San Lorenzo. This was first mentioned in a document from 1260.
After Lodano, the path climbs gently for about a kilometre. The route is lined with small, typical stone houses. You go past lush green meadows, through dense forests and pass many vineyards, approaching the municipality of Maggia downstream all the way.
Vallemaggia, as the people of Ticino call it, is a popular hiking area due to its natural beauty and numerous rock formations. The Maggia attracts many bathers in summer. You cross the bridge, which offers a superb view of the river and its countless white beaches. You then reach the bus stop and this is the end of the Circuito di Lodano.
