Intro

The first stage of the Heidiland Bike route features delightful trails with free-flowing riding: the Blue Salamander trail of the BikerBerg route, unspoilt single trails and a historic cart track make for ample variation, interspersed with gorgeous views. The many mountain taverns and the idyllic reservoir of Chapfensee are good places to take a break along the way.

Description

The first stage of the Heidiland Bike route features a high proportion of wild trails and varied riding terrain. Around one third of the route proceeds along simple single trails with a maximum difficulty level of S2. The route was designed for e-mountain bikes, but the funiculars are also an option for longer ascents.

From Unterterzen, the SeeJet gondola lift takes you to Tannenboden where the tour starts. It’s a pleasant ascent via Tannenbodenalp to Prodalp, where you can look forward to the first highlight: the easy Blue Salamander trail of the BikerBerg Flumserberg route, which forms part of this tour. With its free-flowing riding, it makes for a playful start. The route then dives into the Schilstal valley, where natural single trails and forest tracks give this stretch its character.

The Flumser Kleinberg marks the start of a longer ascent up to Alp Wildenberg and to Berghotel Schönhalden, where you can enjoy a rest with a view. But if you still aren’t ready for a break, you can cycle on to the next Alpine establishment: the unpretentious Sennäbeizli Kohlschlag tavern, which is located on the Alp of the same name and serves its own products. Once you’re out of Schwenditobel gorge, expect multiple bends leading down to Chapfensee – don’t miss your turn! The reservoir is nestled in a serene spot among woodland and meadows. The views are particularly idyllic when the landscape is reflected in the water.

The brief ascent to Vermol is worth it to appreciate the entire length of the old Vermölerweg, a historic cart track, on the way back down. It makes for a harmonious and unspoilt end to the stage. The final metres between St. Martin and your destination for this stage in the heart of Mels proceed along the road.

An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
