Oberdorf–Schwendisee Trail
Overview
Intro
This tour for beginners with just a few inclines and declines leads through the landscape around the two Schwendi Lakes. Without major efforts you can enjoy the winter landscape and the view to Chäserrugg and the Alpstein massif.
Description
The snowshoe trail around the Schwendi Lakes is perfectly suitable for beginners and starts in Oberdorf on 1,230 metres. The starting and end point can be reached with the chairlift of Wildhaus.
The route leads over the soft flanks of Freienalp down to and around the Schwendi Lakes. It is just slightly declining and has rarely challenging parts, thus one can completely concentrate on the landscape. Because it has a lot to offer: fairy-tale winter motifs made of reed and gnarly dead wood in the upland moor around Schwendi Lake, the wilderness of Seichbergwald, Chäserrugg, which steeply rising behind it and the opposite valley side of Alpstein with the prominent Schafberg of Wildhaus in the front.
At the destination of the snowshoe tour the mountain restaurant Oberdorf invites to enjoy local specialities. For example “Schlorzifladen”, a Toggenburg speciality with a filling made of prunes.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
